Gloomy Hollow by Mechanubis Gloomy Hollow by Mechanubis
Gloomy Hollow - Heroes of the Underworld is a game for iOS, published by Chillingo and developed by Skyrock Games.
Jump in this glorious adventure in the surreal world of Gloomy Hollow - a beautiful action RPG coming in 2013.

Have I ever mentioned that I'm an actual, professional videogame artist as well as enigmatic, muscular, smart and handsome lovechild of Jared Leto and the legendary supermodel Fabio? In any case, I'm happy to bring you Gloomy Hollow. I worked on the game as a concept- enviroment- character- and 2D-artist, and am forever gratefull for having gotten the opportunity to work with such passionate, talented and funloving group of people.

Oh, wow, that's awesome! :D I'm loving the character designs and the creepy background! Such an awesome job! The animations are also fantastic, so a applaud the guy who made those! Though I do say some of the animations are sliighhtly jerky or luggish, even if they're supposed to be. (For example, the fat dwarf guy is using his hammer fairly quickly despite his size. Though I do understand that the game engine requires fast-paced action sequences, so I guess I can't really comment that much on accuracy)
Amazing job, overall!

I have a question, though: how did you start working for this company or group? Did they approach you, did you approach them? I'm asking because game design's an area I'm thinking of going into (either that or normal illustration), so I was wondering how I could go about it, or what might be required.

Thanks. The animations as well as the character design for the 2 characters in the pic were done by PERTTIofDOOM. And yes, when making animations for gameplay, the movement has to be significantly faster than real life. This is something I've learned the hard way. You don't even realize it when you're playing but characters in games move like speedracers.

They actually contacted me. I knew the guys from school and they though I would make a sexy addition to their team, so off I went and magick I made. My advice is to pick an area you're good at and master it. Understanding game design and technical aspects of game developement helps also. If you have any schools that specialize in game developement, I'd recommend applying for one.

Ah, right. *facepalm* Some information tends to sail over my head.
Haha, otherwise there would be lot of dying instead of winning. XD

Hm, interesting. There are some guys who went to my school who were keen on learning game design, or programming. Maybe they'll remember me in a couple years time, haha. XD (of course, I like to organise my own success. :P)

I'm doing a normal design course at the moment to specialise in Illustration, at least for now. I enjoy too many niches of the entertainment area to settle on any single one, but games is definitely on the list. :3
