Let's do Doom pt:9 - Pinkydemon by Mechanubis Let's do Doom pt:9 - Pinkydemon by Mechanubis
Again, one of those "why bother"-kind of deals since I really like the Pinky in Doom 3. Which was a shame since there were like 5 of these in the entire game.

Anyhow, I made the overall appearance a lot more... stubby(?) compared to the Doom 3 variant, where the monster was a tad longer and lizardlike. Also I gave this little fella some nice tusks to go, and tweaked the muscletone a bit.

Am I the only one who is reminded of the Oddworld series by this guy?

I know, my favorite DOOM monster and they barely had any. And they made their health too low. However, out of all the DOOM 3 monsters, they are one of the most frightening.

Yay! Every time i saw this guys at the doom i was at deep sexual sence :D Cuz the frontal thorax of a pinky looks like a clit hood and the inner head with teeth moves same like a hottest clhead part =) Love this mob and your redesign!

I love these re-designs, they remind me a lot of current games, but still retain the retro feeling of the older games.

I am completely clueless how you managed to give each and every monster a completely different skin texture and topography; more wrinkled here, more muscled there, with a sprinkle of some taut skin.
I like how you revised the design a little bit; definately still reminds of the Doom 3 beast, but with a slightly different feel to it. I'm not quite sure about those back spikes though....but I can't really put my finger on how it could be changed.

Otherwise, scrupelous detail as always. Keep the concepts coming. :3

Well, they kind of have to be very different, since they are theoretically designed for videogames. The enemies need to be identified and threat-assessed in a blink of an eye, no matter what the pose, lighting, angle or enviromental conditions are. I'm going to do a silhouette/color comparison chart before I start modeling these bastards, to make sure the desings are solid.

But you're absolutely right about the backspikes. They do seem silly, as well as the ones in his elbows.

Haha, of course. I just mean it's difficult (at least for a fledgling like me) to identify and create new textures each time, rather than sticking just to the standard one. :P

I think the elbow ones seem more solid than the back spikes. Maybe...have them less long and thin and rather short and stumpy (and grey?) like the elbow spikes. I would probable move them close to his shoulder blades rather than his spine as well, because that would seem like a more logical and 'natural' (if anything about these monsters is even natural) location to grow. Maybe the spikes can grow between the flab? :XD:

For some reason I can't stop thinking about the backspikes being like some morbid version of Charlie Brown's flock of hair o.O But I'm pretty sure I'll just remove them all together. They don't really ad anything to the character, but would spend some much needed polygons. Not that polygons are that expensive these days, but if the spikes take a 100-tris per character and you've got 30 of these suckas in one room you have an extra 3000 tris farting about doing jack shit.

Why was this thing so damn rare in Doom 3?! It frickin' sucked!

They must've buffed it up a lot to make it THAT rare...

I don't know. And they were way too easy to kill. You basically needed to stare them and look like the most dissapointed parent ever and they just keeled over dead.

I liked Doom 3's Pinky too. They nailed it, design wise. Some of those bulbous parts of his body reminds me of tumors, what an ugly beast the demon is haha
